1. Course Description
In this lecture, I would like to introduce Korean music in simple, but interesting ways. Although it does not have as many English books as other academic fields, we can learn by utilizing the Internet or video.
The final object of the course is: enjoy Korean music while you are listening by studying “Jangdan”, the most important concept in Korean music.
Overall description about Korean music will be given; however, we will focus more on folk music. Even though it is hard to remember every single music piece, the most vital factor is to become aware of Jangdan(tempo of Korean music), and enjoy the music.
The instruction method is to study Jangdan with me, and understand and remember the flowing of Korean music as listening to music repeatedly, which will be given as an assignment. Also, we will learn about Korean instruments which can be found in Korean music, and listen to the sound. If you can distinguish the sound of different instruments in Korean orchestra music, you are good in this course.
